pleasantville
watched pleasantville in class today
(i know my classes sound like such a bludge but we were studying the importance of colour and this movie is the basis of our discussion)
if you havent watched it already,
its pretty much about two siblings
who get sucked into a 1950's tv show called pleasantville,
where everything is "pleasant" and black and white
until they start to change the 1950's way of living
and colour slowly appears into their lives and on screen
(just a short synopsis, theres much more depth to the movie)
anyways the reason why im talking about it is
whilst i was watching it,
all i could think about was yr 12 media class
i absolutely loved the class because we just watched movies and spent a whole semester just talking about cinematography
and how it tells the story
by using such things as colour, saturation, depth of field and different compositions
media by far was my favourite class of all
because we went through so many discussions about things that interested me personally
and a lot of the discussions revolved around the one question
"does art imitate life or does life imitate art?"

art imitates life.
ReplyDeletebecause there was life before art.
the question is ambiguous, its a vicious cycle may
ReplyDeletewhat about the fashion magazines, music lyrics, news reports, tv shows and advertisements that influence us what to wear, think, feel or buy?
